Charlene Oliver caught the attention of Berry Gordy at Motown Records when he heard her recording of a song called “Sweet Sad Clown.”
She was signed to Motown within a month, working with and singing demos for people like Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, and Stevie Wonder (who she sang a duet with in the early 1980s).
Charlene recalls her memories of working with the talented Motown crew and shares her special memories of having a chart-topping hit years after she left the label.
