Hi, this is Sean Hobson, for Expert Village.
What we want to talk about now with our defensive ends is that after you have a good base, a
good low three point stance and we explode off, the next important thing to remember
is that most of time when a defensive man is coming off to block the defensive guy wants
to get up low and lock in on the numbers of our defensive end to try to push him out of
the play and kick him out. So, what we want our defensive guys to do is that as soon as
this guy comes out to lock his arms and engage this guy we want him to explode up through
there. We want him to either punch in and through or to get those hands off somehow,
someway and try to shed that blocker. We don’t ever want the defensive guy to be able to
engage our defensive end and take him and shove him out of the play. This is a very
important guy that we need to get around so we can contain this outside. So, it’s very
important for our defensive end to fire off and get those hands off. This is what it looks
like at full speed (video demo). You see how he fires through with his hands and gets his
hands loose. Now he can go in and do what we need him to do as a defensive end.
