Hey guys welcome back to our Channel! and today… we’re both sick yeah my throat hurts with every word I say… Welcome to our new video of the series.. “learning German with Joss and Janik” today I’m going to explain you and Joss how to sound like a native German because I’m the best example for this… -he is the worst! actually his parents, everytime I talk
to them they’re like… don’t listen to Janik.. he is weird.. so for this video we have 5 categories and the first one is: “pronunciation” for this we’re going to look at some letters or two-letter combinations that Joss is usually struggling with nah nah I’m already amazing at pronunciation… also I’m Kim Kardashian… hello how are you? that sounded horrible! I usually dont speak so bad! I suck under pressure! so we’re gonna start with “CH” like a cat… don’t make it sound too aggressive because it’s not… it’s more like.. “I love you”… that is how he got me.. some other things that I’ve heard when people are learning they say “ik liebe dik” next one is “SP” exactly in English you would say sport in German you would say shport shport not shpoRt also don’t over pronounce the R that’s when you sound French yeah -he always tells me I sound French.. the next one on the list is ä with the two dots so I don’t know how you guys pronounce it… you’re weird but I pronounce it with like an “e” like if somebody hugs you and then -that’s
totally what it is it’s not aa it’s not ee it’s it’s like in between it’s ae.. I hate when they say that it is a mix between A and B between a and B there’s nothing! all right then we have ö with the two dots Ich höre means “I hear” and Joss always says “ich hure” and it sounds more like a $lut..prostitute last one of those with the two dots is the ü okay you would find it in words like über it’s like uber but with ü… thumbs up for this! okay and the last one for this category is eu as in Europe no that’s wrong cutie!! Europa?? no! -yeah of course Europa! -I’ve never heard that before! all right this was category number one now we keep going to expressions these are slang words that you might or might not learn in a German class but there are used by Germans all the time we have the word “na toll”. We always say that and you guys this is one of our most requested questions yeah what does “na toll” mean?
It means like “oh great” but sarcastic yeah like when something bad happens you say “oh great” “Moin” good morning like “what’s up?” yeah yeah actually it doesn’t only mean “good
morning” it basically means “hello” I want to say the bavarian one I love it way more than “moin” Servus! was geht? it’s like “what’s up?” I have one I have one that I say
when I want to look cool okay I say “na klar!” like “of course” yeah it means of course but on the other side you can have “war ja klar” it was obvious, no surprise “kein Plan” i have never heard you saying that! you are such a liar! I say that
all the time what does it mean? -I don’t have any plans today let’s go I don’t know .. it basically means “I don’t know” kein Ding.. yeah it’s the same “no problem” yeah I have another one that you guys should know because I use it when I want to look cool and young and fresh I say “heftig” which is like “dope” that was dope brother.. ok next one is “Alter” we have “alter and “Alter Schwede” you’ve never said anything like this in your life.. yeah I have you could say “Alter” as in… “dude come on!” so tell me something that offends me – You re so ugly! Alter.. gehts noch?!! that is another one! it is like “are you still okay up here?” like are you dumb? are you crazy? Alter Schwede on the other hand basically means “my god” it it’s like old Swedish man next word is “Geil” it’s like cool it’s awesome and “Geil” actually means horny no no I’ve said that to your parents!
yeah because everybody uses it as “awesome” don’t lie to me.. lecker.. it’s delicious delicious ok the last one last word is “ja ja” your sister always tells you this! it’s like yes sure. Yeah exactly it’s like a thing that Germans say ja ja it’s basically “lick my as$” but it’s not a bad thing to say.. everybody says it let’s keep going to the third category which is: German sayings now we have looked at some sayings in an earlier video but here are four more sayings that you can hear very often in Germany so I’m gonna tell you the German
one and you have to tell me what it means okay “das geht mir voll auf den Geist”
I have no clue what Geist means.. “ghost” that makes me completely over the ghost.. that’s putting a lot of pressure on me it’s getting on my nerves, it annoys me oh it annoys me so if you want to sound like a German and somebody’s annoying you say.. “du gehts mir voll auf dem Geist..” -just kidding! “ich drehe durch…” I heard
that before I think “I don’t care about it” no it’s
like “I’m going crazy, I’m freaking out” I need that one in my life! das ist total bescheuert! OMG your sister uses that one! here is the background story, when we made the video about me trying the habanero she watched it and afterwards she said “Janik du bist so bescheuert” you are stupid… “you’re so stupid” yeah last one for this category is a sentence that you should only say to your friends that know your type of humor and they’re not gonna get pissed at you … it’s “du kannst mich mal” you can do me… one time.. what
does it mean? you could get it… no the longer version of this sentence would be “Du kannst mich mal am Arsch lecken” you can kiss my as$ one time… lick lick my as$!! iug like.. F you… exactly! it’s like a F you.. it’s very rare to hear people really saying bad words to other people they say scheisse but that’s pretty much it.. in Mexico you can go say bad words and it’s like normal.. it’s just that we are all saints.. let’s go on to the fourth category which is “mumbling” if you want to sound like it real German you have to mumble a little bit all the German that you’ve learned in classes he’s gonna throw it to the trash. He’s gonna show you like how to speak badly like a lazy person yeah you have to speak like a lazy person a little bit that’s exactly what you have to do basically whenever you have -en in the end of a verb like for example “machen” you don’t say “machEn” we say “machn” we like cut out the -e. I see a tree I would say “ich sehe einn Baum” it’s like it’s not “ein” it’s not “einen” it’s like “einn”, a little bit longer the “n” the worst education you guys could ever get.. very important guys if you want to sound like me the next one is “ich habe” you don’t say “ich habe” you say “ich hab”
without the -e yeah I mean obviously you can say both but a lot of people say “ich hab Hunger” and the last “nicht” a lot of people (me) would say “nich” without the t Oh true! I don’t say “cht” yeah see? without the T oh my god MY MIND JUST GOT BLOWN DUDE the last category “the real world use” which is a quiz basically it’s a conversation we’re gonna have a conversation in German and you have to use the words that fit for that specific
case you can look at the list of words so I’m walking up to you and I say “hey” – “whats up?” exactly and I say: “what are you doing later?” I don’t know… and you? -I’m going to a mexican restuarant.. -Delicious! I wanted to go with you first.. but then Juanita asked if she could go with me… -Dude!! What do you think about Juanita? -Juanita is a $lut… She gets on my nerves.. yeah.. she talks a lot.. -I find that cool.. she’s totally stupid! But she looks very good.. oh great..! but you look of course better.. yeah yeah.. -yes like “yeah sure..” no but I dont mean it that way.. I mean it like “lick my as$” we could also go to eat the three of us.. in your dreams… you can lick my as$… (F you) okay so that was the conversation.. -Arg who is Juanita?? there you have it guys! this is how youcan use the words that we practiced in a real conversation and now Joss sounded like a real German so let us know if we missed something and you have some other cool words that you can use to sound more like a local and maybe we can do a part two at one point or “how to sound like a Mexican” what we could do is for the both of us “how to sound like a Spanish native speaker, from Spain” from Spain yeah let us know if you would
